Teen Writing After Injury

Teens often communicate and express what they know in school by writing. Writing for homework, writing essays, or even just texting and writing emails! Although we know a good bit about how concussions can impact spoken communication, we don't really know very much about how it impacts writing, even though this way of communicating is so important to teens today. But head injuries aren't the only kinds of traumatic injuries that teens can experience, and any injury can be upsetting to a teen's feelings, their activities, and their overall routine. We are looking for teens (12-18 years old) WITH AND WITHOUT A RECENT INJURY to complete a study ONLINE, answering questions about themselves, completing critical thinking and language puzzles and games, and telling us a bit about their personality, emotional state, and feelings of support from family and friends. If interested, please CLICK HERE to participate in this important research!

Concussion in Women of Roller Derby

Roller Derby is a fascinating, fast-paced, and physical sport with increasing popularity in the U.S. among women of all ages. However, relatively little is known about how a concussion impacts a woman differently from a man, especially if that concussion involves moving the body on roller skates! We are currently recruiting current and past roller derby players to complete a study so we can better understand the specific injury characteristics and difficulties women of roller derby experience after a concussion. If interested, or if you are a member of a roller derby team who would like to get involved, please Contact Us or participate by going to go.umd.edu/derby!
